5 Steps to a Motivating Morning Routine
When it comes to creating morning habits, I believe that there are five aspects that every A.M. routine should include. The tasks that we do will obviously vary – after all, we’re all motivated and inspired by all different things, so not everyone’s routines SHOULD look the same!
And it’s even important to note that our routines should evolve and grow with as, as we evolve and grow as humans. I’ve found a morning routine that works great for me right now, but that’s doesn’t mean that my habits will work out well for you, or even that they’ll work out well for me in a few months or years from now.
But as long as you have one thing from each of these five categories incorporated into your morning, I guarantee that you’ll set yourself up for a successful and happy day!
5 Steps to a Motivating Morning
1. Something to wake up your body
It’s one thing to ‘wake up’ and lay in bed for an extra ten, twenty or thirty minutes – getting out of bed right when our eyes open is a whole different game!
It may be difficult to start doing this since most of us are so used to spending some alone time with our phones in bed each morning, but once you ditch the phone for some light stretching, yoga or a run, you’ll realize how much better it is to get your body moving first thing in the morning.
2. Something Productive
Don’t worry, I’m not telling you to conquer your whole to-do list right when you roll out of bed. All you have to do is set yourself and your brain up for a productive day by doing something small.
This can be as simple as writing out that to-do list for the day, or getting your outfit ready for work so you’re not rushing at the last minute. Just do something simple to get in a productive mindset right off the bat!
3. Something Inspiring
I personally love spending some time in the morning listening to a motivating podcast. This usually gets my brain thinking, my creative juices flowing and just overall inspires me.
And is there anything better than starting your day off feeling inspired? I don’t think so! We’re all inspired and motivated by many different things, so experiment with this one and see what makes you feel best!
4. Something to Focus
I know, I know, there’s no way you want to put your brain to work right when you wake up, but hear me out – I’m not telling you to do calculus before 8 A.M., don’t worry!
Something as simple as ten minutes of meditation in the morning can seriously do wonders. It’ll help you feel grateful and help prepare your mind for the day ahead. If meditation isn’t really your jam or you’re not ready to try it out yet, try reading a chapter of a new book or journaling about your hopes for the day or week ahead!
5. Something to show yourself love
Perhaps the most important of all, find a way to show yourself some love every. single. morning! As someone who loves doing my hair, this act is as simple as spending time curling or styling my hair in a fun new way. I not only find it relaxing, but it makes me feel confident and ready to tackle the day.

Try repeating one of these to yourself at the start of your day tomorrow to remind yourself that you are capable of anything and you’re going to rock this whole freakin’ day!
