My Best Self-Care Tips
I’ve been talking a lot about goals on the blog lately, which is super important, because what would we be if we didn’t set goals for ourselves, right?! But today I’m going to switch gears and discuss something just as is important, if not more… self-care!
I don’t know about you, but in my opinion, sometimes staying in for a self-care night is just as fun as going out and I know my college besties and I always had a blast whenever we’d put on our face masks, drink some wine, paint our nails and watch Frozen. Since then, I’ve learned to incorporate self-care into my daily routine and today I’m sharing a few of my best tips for taking care of myself — mind, body and soul!

1. Always Always Always drink tons of water… just make it a lil more fancy sometimes
Self-care starts from the inside right?! Water is always important but even more so when you're putting a focus on self care. If you get sick of plain old water like me, try adding in fruits like lemon, lime, strawberries or even mint leaves and cucumbers to give it a little extra kick!
2. Don’t be afraid to say ‘no’
One thing I've learned is the importance of being able to politely say 'no.' We have so many responsibilities, so sometimes it feels like it's necessary to pile every possible thing onto our plates... but that's just not true! Saying 'yes' to everything can lead to burnout, so say no to those smaller responsibilities sometimes if it'll help keep you a bit more sane!
3. Figure out what relaxes you
I’m convinced that everyone needs at least one activity or hobby that completely relaxes us. This should be something that totally tunes out the bad in our minds and just brings us joy. It doesn’t matter if it’s a physical activity like running or yoga, a crafty hobby like painting or hand-lettering, or a fun interest like baking or writing… just find a few things that make you happy!
4. Make it part of your daily routine
Once you know what activities or hobbies bring you to your total ‘zen’ state, make them part of your daily routine! Wake up just a few minutes earlier to get your yoga on or set aside some time after work for some crafting. By incorporating something you love into your daily routine, you’ll always have something to look forward to even on the not-so-good days.
My relationship with my cell phone is a love/hate one. I love that I'm able to easily communicate with anyone in an instant, but I hate feeling addicted to social media. Lately, I've been putting social media on the backburner and it feels fantastic! If you feel like a social media detox will improve your state of mind (and trust me, it will) try to take a small break from it as part of your self-care routine.
6. Let yourself indulge a bit!
If wine or chocolates help you feel calm and cool, then go for it, girlfriend! Never overindulge because you’ll just regret it later, but satisfying those harmless cravings is a good thing when we’re taking care of ourselves!
7. Tune in to your body
There are various times when we need to a break: our mind, our body, our skin, our exercise routine, our side hustle… they all need a break sometimes! Listen to your body and mind to know when you need a night of self care instead of pushing your limits. You’ll come back feeling refreshed and even more ready to take things on!
8. Learn to turn your mind off
If you’re like me and have a mind that goes a thousand miles a minute, you gotta learn how to tune those thoughts out sometimes! I like to put on a good RomCom and cuddle up in bed with a face mask on. For some reason, a good movie always puts my mind at ease in no time!
