How to Improve Your Mindset: Tips from the Experts
“Living with anxiety and panic, my mind immediately jumps to the worst-case-scenario conclusions. So, battling this unfortunate instinct of mine has proven to be crucial to living a positive life. Whenever my thoughts go to a dark place, I allow myself to feel the negativity and then move beyond it. How? For every negative thought, I think of one positive to offset it. For example, I was recently stuck in an airport for 12+ hours due to flight delays. My mind was reeling with negativity and worry. Then, I forced myself to see one positive aspect of the situation and thought: I’m glad I’m safe and sound in this airport, since the original plane had mechanical issues. Another, safer plane will come. And yes, I boarded another plane and made it home safely!”

“What I love about mindsets are the ability to change them. Even if you’ve lived your whole life with negative self-talk or self-doubt, you CAN change with practice. My three favorites are affirmations, gratitude journaling, and podcasts. I have never listened to a podcast where I wasn’t inspired to make a change. Podcasts are a great start for self-awareness and reflection. Gratitude allows you to reflect on the good. Instead of having a negative outlook on something, change it into a positive in your life. Finally, affirmations allow me to make positive statements about myself and instantly improve my mood.”

“Change the way you speak to yourself and the story that you tell yourself. Having a positive self-image allows yourself to build your self-esteem by accepting yourself and removing the internal barriers that keep you from doing your best. If we start asking ourselves ‘is this a way I would speak to a friend?’ or, ‘is this the type of advice I would give a friend?’ we begin to remove ourselves from judgement and the situation, and start treating ourselves with more kindness and potential.”

“My best tip for improving your mindset and going from a negative to a positive mindset, is writing daily affirmations. Affirmations are the perfect way to develop a more positive perception of yourself and your life. They can influence the way you think and behave. Because unfortunately most of us will think more negative thoughts about ourselves. Affirmations can help undo the damage caused by negative statements which we have repeatedly told ourselves. I’ve incorporated affirmations into my morning routine by writing one affirmation at the end of my morning pages. Some days I write the same affirmation if I’m working towards a specific goal. While other days I write an affirmation which resonates well with my morning pages and how I’m currently feeling.”

“My best tip for improving your mindset is to find the right learning style for you. The content and resources to improve your mindset are out there, but it's important not to give up when things don't click for you. I know exactly how this feels because my mindset was totally different before I was introduced to the world of audiobooks and podcasts. I'm an audio learner, that's how information resonates with me. I also love reading long-form content because I need details. Everyone is different, if you're hitting a wall when it comes to improving your mindset, try learning it in a different way! Whether is through visuals, audio, or even interpretative dance, there is no one right to do anything and that includes learning.”

My best tip for improving your mindset is to start thinking as though you already are your best self.
That’s right, even if you feel like you have a long way to go before you achieve your dream life, you should already start thinking, acting and feeling like that person.
Whenever you start to doubt yourself, get trapped in negative thoughts or don’t feel motivated to take action, ask yourself what your best self would do and start showing up as that person.
After just a few days of doing this, you’ll actually start feeling like your best self! The positive mindset will feel natural and you’ll start taking action towards what you truly want.
