4 Ways Our Routines Impact Our Goals
The past month on Kaptivating Thoughts has been all about creating strong routines, from improving our morning routines to creating a daily routine that inspires and motivates us.
Think about it — the only way to hit any goal we set for ourselves, is to be consistent in working towards it every day. And the best way to do that is to figure out how you can break your goal down into an action you can do every single day that will get you that much closer to it.
I’ve learned that having strong, healthy habits is the best way to set ourselves up for success in reaching our goals. Keep reading on for four ways our routines can have a positive impact on our goals!
1. You’ll be less likely to bail out on things that’ll help you accomplish your goal
If it’s part of your daily routine, you’re that much more likely to actually do it! One of my fun goals for 2018 is to improve my hand-lettering. It’s such a fun and simple goal, that sometimes I feel like I can just put it off until next week or next month and it won’t matter. But think of how much quicker I’ll reach that goal if I just spend 10 minutes each night working on it!
Be honest here — do you have any goals that, for whatever reason, you know you’re more likely to bail on when it comes to actually working towards it? Figure out how you can overcome that and work on it each day, even for just a few minutes, and you’ll be more likely to stick with it!
2. You’ll quickly see what works and doesn’t work for you
Rather than just putting effort into a goal on a weekly or monthly basis, you’ll get a pretty good sense of whether or not it’s something you truly want simply by incorporating some form of it into your routine.
Think you might want to start waking up earlier? Try doing it every single day for one week (even if it’s just 30 minutes earlier than normal) and you’ll be able to tell whether or not you ACTUALLY want to be a morning person. If not, that’s totally fine — you can easily move on from that goal and form a new one that works for you!
3. You’ll be able to build on those good habits
When it comes to forming habits, once you have a solid foundation, it’s SO easy to build it up even more. That’s why I encourage you to start simple (like as simple as you can think of!) and work your way up to an awesome habit or routine, so you don’t get overwhelmed (because trust me, I’ve definitely done that before!)
What I mean by this is, if one of your goals is to work out for one hour every day, start with just doing 10 or 15 minutes each day. Once you get into the habit of exercising daily, it’ll be easier and easier to tack on more time. Just form the habit first, AND THEN build on it!
4. You’ll realize that you can do anything you put your mind to
Once you see how easy it can be to form good habits and inspiring routines, you’ll realize that you can truly accomplish anything!
